Moments after landing at the airport in Borneo I was accosted by two guys who convinced me they were legit and saw me (white, tall, cowboy hat, backpack, camera slung around my shoulder). “We are shooting a commercial for tourism to the island,” they said. “You would be perfect for being a tall, white tourist with a big camera. Will you participate?” “How much will I make?” I asked. “Nothing,” they replied. So I agreed to show up the next morning at the Kuching river front for my 15 minutes of fame. My role was to play like I was a tourist taking pictures of an indigenous festival gathering. Luckily I had a memory card and a battery in the camera; here’s some snaps I got. Payment enough for me.

That Time on Borneo When I was in a Television Commercial
